twentytwentyone are delighted to announce that Bags of Goodwill raised £6010 for the Fairtrade Foundation.
The Fairtrade Foundation is thrilled with the result and will invest funds in their new project called 'Fairtrade Schools'. "Aiming to raise awareness and understanding of Fairtrade to the next generation of Fairtrade supporters."
twentytwentyone wish to extend our sincere gratitude to the designers and our supporters for making this event possible. The project received incredible support with the fusion of design and responsible manufacturing and materials produced stimulating results. The fact that thirty-nine cotton bags with a basic cost of £1 each raised £6000 is a testimony towards the creative quality of the designs.

Wallpaper Bags of Goodwill, London
'Amidst the vogue of all things eco-friendly, some remarkably forward thinking and imaginative projects have surfaced with not a scrap of hemp or raffia in sight. One of our favourite London stores, twentytwentyone, sent out blank Fairtrade, organic certified cotton bags to 40 of the world's greatest designers, asking them to decorate or deface as they saw fit. the only condition being that each reflected their own design philosophy and had consideration towards responsible design.
The aim of the project to raise as much money as possible to the Fairtrade Foundation by auctioning off the bags throughout the London Design Festival, from twentytwentyone's showroom on River St and given both the calibre of design talent involved and the interesting range of creations, a small fortune should be raised.
|
It's clearly a testament to how much designers are striving to incorporate ethical and eco-aware practices into their work, and also in how much esteem twentytwentyone is regarded around the design community that contributors are of such rank: Naoto Fukasawa, Konstantin Grcic, Giulio Cappellini and the seemingly ubiquitous Ross Lovegrove to name a sprinkling of the people who've participated.' |

Hippyshopper Bags of Goodwill from twentytwentyone
'Cutting-edge London design collective twentytwentyone has come up with an attractive solution to the plastic bag problem, with a new set of tote bag designs from 40 world-renowned designers.
When the owners decided to stop using polythene bags in their shop, they came up with the 'bags of goodwill' idea: They sourced a manufacturer to produce an organic Fairtrade certified bag and asked the designers to decorate them. The bags will then be exhibited during London Design Festival and auctioned with all bids and donations going directly to the Fairtrade Foundation.' |

New Consumer Bags of Goodwill by Rikke Bruntse-Dahl
'London-based design shop twentytwentyone, is the latet company to come up with a conscientious alternative to the plastic bag.
When the owners decided to stop using polythene bags in their shop, they came up with the "bags of goodwill' idea: They sourced a manufacturer to produce an organic and Fairtrade certified bag and asked 40 world-renowned designers to decorate them. The bags will then be exhibited during London Design Festival and auctioned with all bids and donations going directly to the Fairtrade Foundation.
Even more exlusive than Hindmarch's "I'm not a plastic bag" the bags of goodwill are sure to become a hit with design-loving ethical consumers.' |

Treehugger Bags of Goodwill by Bonnie Alter on 09.13.2007
'Acknowledging that everyone is getting a little fed up with the 'I am not a plastic bag' phenomenon, we still couldn't igonre these great looking carrier bags. Twentytwentyone, a furniture and design store, has commissioned forty world-renowned furniture and product designers for Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Norway and the UK to come up with designs for Fairtrade cotton organic carrier bags. Those participating include El Ultimo Grito, Ella Doran, Jasper Morrison, Lucienne Day, Matthew Hilton, Michael Marriott and Tord Boontje.
The bags will be on display for a week, as part of London Design Festival and then be auctioned off. The only criterion for their creation was that the design "reflect their philosophy towards design and make a consideration towards responsible design". The proceeds will go to the Fairtrade Foundation.' |

Background
twentytwentyone are honoured to launch Bags of Goodwill, an exhibition and auction to raise awareness and funds for the Fairtrade Foundation.
Bags of Goodwill will show one-off creations by 40 world-renowned designers during London Design Festival. 19-25 September. To be held at our River Street showroom, the event is being generously supported by Cappellini.
The unique bags are available to purchase online. The highest bidder will be contacted at the close of the exhibition, with all monies going to the Fairtrade Foundation. |
Information
twentytwentyone wanted to move away from using polythene shop-bags and have sourced a manufacturer to produce Fairtrade and organic certified cotton bag. We consider the bags to be a perfect blank canvas and envisaged a series of commissioned designs to reflect the activities of twentytwentyone. The idea for an auction to raise money for charity was borne out of this concept.
19-25 September 10am - 5pm. (12pm - 5 pm on Sunday 23 September).
