Gio Ponti

The Milanese Gio Ponti was born in 1891. The iconic architect's structures are still celebrated today and formed the basis of contemporary architecture. 

In 1927 Ponti joined Emilio Lancia and Mino Fiocchi to form an architecture practice, Il Labirinto. Their aim was to create quality furniture, objects and structures. From 1923 he was the artistic director of Richard Ginori. Although it was his creation of Domus magazine in 1928 which changed modern Italian design. 

His most famous and inspiring building is the Pirelli Skyscraper in Milan, built in 1956.
