Hans Bølling was born in Braband, Denmark in 1931. The designer studied at the Arts and Handcraft school, then starting his career in advertising. However, he then attended the Royal Danish Academy, to become an architect.
The mid-century design icon played with humour and design creating ranges of wooden figures and animals. These fun and characterful miniatures captured the pared-down aesthetic of Scandinavian modernism, with their simplified forms and wooden construction.
