John Kandell (1925-1991) was a Swedish architect, designer and painter. Born in Helsingborg, he trained at the Konstfack School of Arts in Stockholm, later taking up a teaching job there.
Working as an architect, sometimes in partnership with his brother Axel Kandell, he contributed to the design of several major building schemes. In the 1980s he was commissioned by furniture company Källemo to produce a range of pieces including the now classic and much-imitated Pilaster shelving unit.
His designs are represented in various collections including the National Museum in Stockholm.
