Kwangho Lee

Kwangho Lee was born in Korea in 1981, where he was raised in a small city neighbouring Seoul. His grandfather, a farmer who would make household objects from everyday materials, greatly influenced the designer's approach to making.

Lee is interested in the joining of materials, and in particular, the exact moment they unionise. So far, he has worked to connect marble to marble, copper to enamel, and for the Finnish design studio Vaarnii's first collection, he designed a bench joining raw pine with raw pine.

In 2009, he was nominated as Designer of The Future at Design Miami/Basel, and in 2011 won the award for Artist of the Year by the Korean Ministry of Culture.

His works are encompassed in several international permanent collections, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
