John + Sylvia Reid

Pioneering mid-century designers John and Sylvia Reid helped to define our understanding of contemporary furniture, shaping the way we live today.

John and Sylvia Reid met while studying at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Architecture in London at the beginning of the Second World War. Their successful and prolific design partnership lasted until John's death in 1992.

They are best known for their S-Range of furniture, which was their first range of living and dining furniture created in the 1960s. This range was designed during their decade long relationship for the British furniture manufacturer, Stag furniture. The S-Range comprises thirteen iconic pieces of furniture, the distinctive, highly-crafted collection taking inspiration from the prominent Scandinavian designers of the time.

Three Milan Triennale medals and four Design Council awards testify to the skill and broad range of their architectural and industrial designs.

Their son Dominic Reid along with Nicholas Radford, a former management member of Stag furniture now oversee the reproduction of the S-Range of furniture through Radford's furniture company Nathan furniture. Sylvia Reid, who is now in her 90s and lives in Cornwall, has endorsed the collaboration between Dominic and Nicholas.
