Alvar Aalto vase
Alvar Aalto vase by Alvar Aalto for Iittala.
The Aalto vase dates back to 1936 and was first presented at the Paris World Fair the following year. Its fluid, organic form is still mouth blown today at the Iittala factory.
It takes seven skilled craftsmen working in twelve different stages over ten hours to create one Aalto vase. For the first time, the renowned Aalto vase is available in a dark grey colour, bringing a contemporary feel to this classic design.
Alvar Aalto took inspiration from the beauty of his homeland, Finland, to create the iconic asymmetrical waves ("aalto" in Finnish) that have become synonymous with his name.
Each Aalto vase is mouthblown, hand-cut and then polished several times at the Iittala glass factory. Dishwasher safe.
