Stool 60 Kontrasti by Alvar Aalto for Artek.
The Stool 60 Kontrasti Edition commemorates the 90 Years of Stool 60, celebrating its innovative construction. This special edition of the Stool 60 has been developed by Artek’s own design team, Kontrasti. The use of veneer sheets inserted into incisions in each leg of the birch wood provides the necessary flexibility to bend the wood into the desired L-shape. In the wood bending process, thermo-treated birch veneer in a contrasting tone is used to highlight the beauty of this great innovation.
Additionally, the same darker veneer strips are used in the seat top, emphasising the economic use of wood offcuts from the legs in the construction of the seat. Like in 1933, this Stool 60 is made entirely from one raw material without complicated joinery. Stool 60 Kontrasti is a perfect example of responsible timber usage and holistic design thinking.
