Materials Dropdown

ColoRing uses a soft-grained pinewood as a veneer, the softer sections of the wood removed with a hard-hair brush to create an uneven surface, accentuating the natural grain (Udukuri).

Two layers of contrasting coloured lacquer are applied and subsequently sanded back to partially reveal the layers below (Tsugaru-Nuri).

The unique patterns revealed are reminiscent of topographical maps, a neon pattern juxtaposing the beauty of the natural material.

Due to Artek's innovative manufacturing techniques, the fully-manual ColoRing procedure has been transformed into a semi-industrial process, allowing the collection to reach a wider audience.
