To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner's Shell Chair, Carl Hansen & Søn has introduced a special edition in rosewood and oak. Although the Shell Chair debuted at the Cabinetmakers' Autumn Exhibition in Copenhagen on September 20, 1963, it took 35 years to achieve its current level of popularity and recognition.
Wegner's profound understanding of wood's capabilities and challenges is evident in the chair's graceful curves and organic forms. To enhance the stability of the three-legged chair, Wegner ingeniously devised a dual frame that radiates beauty from every angle.
Unlike the standard Shell Chair, this anniversary edition focuses on seat upholstery only, emphasising the unique grain of the FSCTM-certified Santos rosewood.
The chair's backrest is adorned with a small brass plate engraved with Hans J. Wegner's signature and the design year.
