CH24 Lacquered chair, 1949

CH24 CHS colours lacquered dining chair by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son.

Designed in 1949, the CH24 dining chair was one of the first of the chairs that Hans Wegner produced for Carl Hansen & Son. It has been in continuous production since 1950.

Often known as the Wishbone Chair because of the uniquely shaped vertical element at the centre of the chair back, the CH24 is a genuine classic of modern design. Despite the generous curvature of the arms, the CH24 is lightweight and relatively small. It has a gracious and welcoming air that allows it to sit happily in a range of different contexts.

The beech wood has a minimal grain structure visible when painted, in contrast to oak and ash which have a clearly visible wood grain when painted. The full range of Carl Hansen colours can be viewed in the image above and in the downloadable pdf sheet opposite. Please enter the appropriate colour reference number when placing your order.

The CH24 is available in a range of other woods and finishes: please see  'More products in this range' below for alternative options.

Carl Hansen opened his furniture workshop in Odense, Denmark in 1908 and soon became known for the high quality of his work.

Carl Hansen opened his furniture workshop in Odense, Denmark in 1908 and soon became known for the high quality of his work.

In the early days, the company produced bespoke furniture – including everything from dining room sets to bedroom suites. As the company grew and times changed, however, it gradually began to produce smaller series of its most popular pieces. This combination of hand craftsmanship and rational series production soon became the firm’s hallmark – and continues to set it apart today.
