Crookes Radiometer

Crookes Radiometer by Glasblaserei Vogel.

The Crookes radiometer was invented in 1873 by Sir William Crookes and is also known as a light mill. It is the result of chemical research where Crookes discovered the radiometer known today. The radiometer has four vanes suspended inside a glass blown bulb containing a partial vacuum. When the vanes come into contact with light, they begin to spin and in bright sunlight, they can spin at several thousand rotations per minute.

The radiometer is available in two variants, a standing or hanging globe ball. The sphere is made of Lauscha glass. The glass ball features a glass loop for hanging at the top and a glass peak at the bottom.

The standing version features a solid glass stem with a crystal Lauscha glass sphere. The glass foot consists of crystal glass.

This piece has the protected trademark of the Thuringian glassblower federation.
