Glo-Ball ceiling, 1999

Glo-Ball ceiling light by Jasper Morrison for Flos.

The Glo-Ball family of lighting exemplifies Jasper Morrison's 'super normal' design ethos. Designed to achieve the maximum diffusion of light, the Glo-Ball series features a bulb housed within a hand-blown sphere of etched white opaline glass.

The spherical shade maximises the diffusion of light while minimising the light's profile: the light appears as a flat glowing disc when illuminated and issues a soft and clean white light.

Available in two sizes.

Bulb (not included):
C1: 1 x max 150W 220-250V.
C2: 1 x max 250W 220-250V.

Flos was founded in 1962 in Merano, for the purpose of producing modern lighting.

With the intention of developing new lighting concepts, the company enlisted the aid of Achille Castiglioni, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Tobia Scarpa. Many successful designs of this trio are still manufactured half a century after their initial realizations. One of the first materials the team experimented with was cocoon, a very pliable material made in the USA. In 1964 Sergio Gandini joined the company, and the headquarters were moved to a new site near Brescia.
