Oxford Premium chair, 1965

Oxford Premium chair by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen.

The original version of the Oxford chair was designed for the professors at St Catherine’s College in Oxford in 1965.

Fritz Hansen re-designed the Oxford chair in 2016, creating a new version called the Oxford Premium. The Oxford Premium has a 3-layer foam upholstery that, combined with a wider seat, makes it particularly comfortable, and horizontal stitching lines that highlight the design.

The Oxford Premium chair has a seat shell made of moulded sliced veneer, fully upholstered in 3 layers with horizontal stitching. The Oxford Premium chair is available with a low or medium-high back, both with armrests. Pricing example is for an Oxford Premium chair with a low back and armrests, please see pdf in Product Downloads for all models available or enquire for details.

The history of Fritz Hansen begins in 1872, where Danish cabinet-maker Fritz Hansen from Nakskov obtains a trade license in Copenhagen.

The history of Fritz Hansen begins in 1872, where Danish cabinet-maker Fritz Hansen from Nakskov obtains a trade license in Copenhagen.

In 1885 he starts a furniture production company of his own and within two years manages to establish a flourishing workshop - in central Copenhagen – where quality is already a priority.. Early on in the century, the forward-looking Christian E. Hansen, son of Fritz Hansen, starts to experiment with steam bending beech. In the Thirties, the technique is so refined that Fritz Hansen is among the world leaders in the field, which later evolves into the firm’s specialty: Furniture created in laminate wood.
