The rocking base option was discontinued in 1968 but continued to exist until 1984, until that time given by the company as a gift to Herman Miller employees on becoming a parent. Herman Miller in the US and Vitra in Europe have since re-issued the RAR version in plastic and later in fibreglass once again.

This early example has a 2nd generation shell and original zinc rod and birch wood base. 2nd generation shells were made between 1954-55 by either Zenith plastics of Gardena, California with no label (as per this example) or by the Eames Office in Santa Monica which display a red 'Venice' label. 2nd generation shells can be identified by the wide rubber shock mounts and central steel washer.

The Red Orange shell is in good condition, colour is sun-bleached and base shows signs of patina and wear consummate with age.

https://www.twentytwentyone.com/products/herman-miller-charles-and-ray-eames-eames-rar-rocking-chair-1950
