Originals Butterfly chair, 1958
Originals Butterfly Chair by Lucian Ercolani for Ercol.
Launched in 1958, Ercol’s extensive development work enabled bending of thick wood laminations to create the curves of the Butterfly chair.
The soft curves of this chair create an eyecatching design. The shape and inherent springiness of the bentwood make for a comfortable seat.
The Windsor wedge joint is a prominent feature of this chair. The leg goes right through the seat sitting flush with the surface, then a wedge is inserted into a slot in the leg to form a strong joint. This adds a beautiful design element.
The distinctive bent form is reminiscent of a butterfly's wings, hence the name.
