Rachel Scott 02 Rug

Rachel Scott 02 Rug by Rachel Scott.

Rachel Scott's rugs are hand-spun and woven using natural, undyed wool. The fleece sourced from long term partners with sheep flocks in the Shetlands, Wales and Berkshire. The fleece is prepared by Rachel by straighten the flax and spinning the yarn, using traditional, handmade and aged equipment. The upright loom was made by her brother some 40 years ago.

The rugs are a product of a slow, dextrous hand-worked process, taking some 6-8 days to weave. The natural colours or the different wools create the contrast and textures in her designs. Whilst Rachel’s designs return to common themes, each design is entirely unique. The dynamic arrangement of geometries reflect landscapes or forms in space.

The honest approach to material and making is both a respectful craft and progressively of our time.

“The designs are true to the nature of weaving; straight lines making geometric shapes”
Rachel Scott

Once complete, each rug is washed to shrink and felt the wool, creating a beautifully robust piece for everyday use as a floor covering or wall hanging.
