The Shakers later produced a tall, plain example known as the ‘cupboard desk’ in the early 19th Century. This restrained modernist design by Robin Day again marries the combination of drawers for storage with a desk unit.

The simple bronzed handles and black painted steel legs contrast with the mahogany case and rosewood drawer fronts and complement the functionalist layout within.

Manufactured by Hille, the flexible range of units were designed to work singularly, or as part of a system. This vintage example shows a ‘Maple’ retailer badge in one of the drawers and is believed to date around c.1960.

The celebrated Interplan range was designed in 1954 and exhibited at the Milan Triennale in the same year.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0032/4966/8207/files/twentytwentyone-interplan-robin-day-writing-desk-vintage-1.jpg?v=1740159183
