Transparent Table 2021 Edition, 1960s

Transparent Table 2021 by Robin Day for twentytwentyone.

To mark our anniversary and pay tribute to one of the nation’s great modernist visionaries, twentytwentyone present a limited edition of the Transparent Table designed by Robin Day.

The Transparent Table is a somewhat undiscovered design. In fact, it had no name, until Paula Day suggested its current moniker. Only one is known to exist and was made by Robin Day for his own home in Cheyne Walk in around 1960. It was never produced commercially, and the sole example continued its central role in the couple’s living room when they moved to their home in Chichester.

“The glass/perspex coffee table was a one-off piece designed by my father for our living room in the 1960s. Placed at the heart of the south-facing sitting area, it kept sightlines open to the elegant Robin Day furniture gathered around it.”

Paula Day

The original table from the Day’s home has been used as the template for the re-edition. The quiet, modernist design provides enduring utility whilst attaining a simple, sculptural quality.

An edition limited to 25 pieces will include a laser-engraved signature.

“I’m touched to see this item from our family home carefully reproduced by twentytwentyone. This collaboration perfectly commemorates the company’s close relationship with my parents, which the Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation is delighted to celebrate in twentytwentyone’s 25th anniversary year.”
