This item is a one-off ex-display item to be sold on a first order, first served basis.

In 1948, Charles and Ray Eames won second prize when participating in the 'International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design' held by the New York Museum of Modern Art. Their chair design featured a shell seat moulded to the contours of the body in metal with a concept for a variety of accompanying bases.

Due to the complexity and high cost of mass production, they sought to find an alternative for the metal, eventually discovering glass-fibre reinforced polyester resin. Primarily used for military application, the Eameses recognised the qualities of the material: mouldability, strength and suitability to industrial manufacturing processes.

The first to use the material for furniture design, the tactile quality of the fibreglass enhanced the organic, moulded form of the chair to provide optimal comfort.

The Eames DSX chair is also available in plastic shell version.

Note: special additives prevent the fading of colours due to UV radiation. However, if the chair is exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods, the colour may change over time. We recommend limited exposure to sunlight.

Herman Miller has the sole license for the Charles and Ray Eames collection in the U.S. and Far East. Therefore export of these products from the UK to the U.S. is not possible.

Available in navy blue, with basic dark powder-coated base.
