Eames RE RAR Rocking Chair

Eames RE RAR Rocking Chair by Charles & Ray Eames for Vitra.

Plastic Armchairs were first presented as part of a New York Museum of Modern Art competition, “Low-Cost Furniture Design”. Their organically shaped plastic seat shells were later combined with various different bases and manufactured in their millions.

The Eames Plastic Chair has undergone numerous refinements and adjustments throughout its conception in the 1950s. To enhance its sustainability the chair shells now utilise recycled materials sourced from German household waste, notably collected through the 'Der Gelbe Sack' (Yellow Bag) system and predominantly from used packaging. This shift from traditional plastic to recycled material not only contributes to a reduction in climate-damaging emissions but also conserves energy.
