Stölzl wool blanket
Stölzl wool blanket by Wallace Sewell.
To celebrate one hundred years of Bauhaus, in 2019, Wallace Sewell released a re-edition of Gunta Stölzl’s original ‘Prellerdecke’ blanket.
When Bauhaus relocated to Dessau in 1926, Stölzl, who was fundamental to the weaving department, designed a blanket for the ‘Prellerhaus’ student dormitories. The original design, which was a bold interaction of horizontal and vertical lines, and positive and negative spaces, was sadly lost and had to be heavily investigated to reproduce this design.
Working with Gunta Stölzl’s daughter, Monika Stadler, Wallace Sewell utilised archives and photographs of the blanket to develop a blanket as close as possible to the original.
