Ingo Maurer

Born in Germany, Ingo Maurer trained as a typogrpaher and studied Graphic Design in Switzerland and Munich. After studying, Maurer spent time in the USA working alongside clients including IBM. 

In 1966, Ingo Maurer set up his own production in Germany, focusing on his own designs to design and manufacturer. One of his first design is the 'Bulb' a pop-art style art which is part of the permanent MoMa design collection. 

Ingo Maurer is known for his bespoke, unique and experimental designs. His work is both unusual and classic in style. After, exploring Japanese art, Maurer began incorporating Japanese paper into his work - creating the Poul Poul and Samurai lamps. 

His work has been recognised widely and been exhibited in collections globally, including exhibitions in Amsterdam and Paris.  His most known exhibition was in collaboration with the Vitra Design Museum, "Ingo Maurer - Light - Reaching for the Moon" which was exhibited around Europe and Japan. 

Now focused more on installations and lighting systems, Ingo Maurer continues to produce innovative and playful designs for a wide range of public and private clients.
