In the Fitzrovia district of London, dMFK Architects have transformed a mid-century medical laboratory into a flexible, contemporary office space with a homely feel. Spanning 550 square meters, the office features bespoke oak joinery, welcoming breakout zones, and furniture that reflects the building's design era.
The spacious office is accessed via the building's original concrete staircase, meticulously restored by dMFK Architects. In the lobby, a pair of Boomerang Chairs create an inviting area for guests to wait, setting the tone for the mid-century Scandinavian interior that awaits at the top of the staircase.
A blend of linear and rounded forms has been employed in the office to foster a comfortable and inspiring working environment. The architects' vision was to create versatile areas within one space while maintaining a cohesive design language.
The open-plan layout is thoughtfully defined by the furniture. In the seating area for casual meetings and breaks, the four-seat Dandy Sofa, with its curved design, creates an enveloping space that encourages collaboration. Along the walls under the windows, tall desks are paired with Kevi office chairs and contemporary task lighting, providing functional workspaces.
On the other side of the office, a meeting area has been created using a rounded table surrounded by four CH20 Chairs, creating a warm atmosphere conducive to productive discussions. Meanwhile, the main desks are equipped with Vitra Allstar office chairs, which combine a modern silhouette with comfortable seating for long periods of use.
