Spanish Dining Chair, 1958

Spanish Dining Chair by Børge Mogensen for Fredericia.

In 1958, Bøørge Mogensen and his family travelled to Spain. In Andalucia, he fell in love with a traditional chair, commonly found within ancient Islamic cultures, with a wide seat and broad armrests. Once back in Denmark, he used this inspiration to create the iconic Spanish Chair

Mogensen modernised the design, removing the elaborate carvings while applying his customary geometrical precision, achieving a robust chair with exceptional longevity and enduring character.

The Spanish Dining Chair belongs to Mogensen's 1958 collection, composed of the Hunting Chair and Spanish Chair, featuring the same signature solid wood frame, saddle leather and buckle detailing.

Available with or without armrests.

Fredericia was first established as the Fredericia Stolefabrik (Fredericia Chair Factory) in 1911 and specialised in antique style furniture.

Fredericia was first established as the Fredericia Stolefabrik (Fredericia Chair Factory) in 1911 and specialised in antique style furniture.

In 1955 the languishing company was acquired by Andreas Graversen who scrapped the existing product line and created a new one with the help of young architect, Børge Mogensen.

The company was taken over by Graversen's son, Thomas Graversen, in 1995. He led the company into the new century with a more fluid approach to design and production. Together with designers like Nanna Ditzel, he created a number of internationally recognised furniture pieces while at the same time continuing to produce the best of Mogensen's designs.
