Hans-Agne Jakobsson's wooden lamp shades stemmed from the designer's exploration of the characteristics of pine veneer, particularly regarding its interaction with light. The lamps have since been re-engineered by pine specialists Vaarnii as part of their first venture into lighting.
The ceiling lights come in two dimensions and showcase the graphic silhouette of concentric plywood circles. With their generous proportions, they emit a warm glow that filters through, accentuating the unique tone and grain of the pine. Being a natural material, the strips possess a dynamic and self-shaping quality, meaning each strip is unique in character.

Materials
Once a popular material amongst Finnish artisans, Vaarnii wants to revive the use of Pine Wood within furniture construction.
The Hans ceiling light is made from a combination of solid pine wood and pine veneer.
The pine wood is harvested from sustainably managed Finnish forests, is PEFC certified and slow grown, finished with a stain-resistant, transparent, matte oil wax.
As a result of the naturally occurring oils and resins in the wood, pine develops a rich honey colour over time.
Please note: due to the soft nature of pinewood, the material is prone to developing scratches and dents. Vaarnii believes these markings are to be celebrated and viewed as building to the uniqueness and charm of the product.
