Rock, 2002
A nursing chair, a chair for the elderly, a chair that is always envisaged as firmly fixed in a fireside location...
twentytwentyone's Rock exhibition set out to dismantle the preconceptions that accrue around the rocking chair, to identify modern variations of seating with movement, and to show the value of seats that rock.
The exhibits included classic twentieth-century designs alongside more recently designed concepts for furniture that offered movement, such as Ineke Han's Happy Horse (pictured below).
A one-off design by Ron Arad was displayed, the rocking variant of his Tom chair
David Trubridge's Body Raft (feature image, top) was featured alongside Verner Panton's Relaxer.
Also on display were Isamu Noguchi's Rocking stool and Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglione's iconic Sella stool .
