Enzo Mari

The Italian designer Enzo Mari is an important and iconic figure of Italian modernism. His works encapsulating his love of craft and quality, alongside the political aspirations they embodied.

Trained at the Brera Academy in Milan in 1956, Mari worked in many mediums, from furniture, product design to graphics. He equally wrote manifesto-type books to explain his idealist views of design practice. All his works are rooted in functionalism.

His futurist book, Design as Art, which is still available today, covers the beauty in the practical and accessible; citing road signs, cars, lamps and adverts as equally important designs for the modern world.

Mari has been awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro four times.
