Designers Jordi Miralbell and Mariona Raventós studied together at the Elisava design school, in Barcelona. In 1979 setting up their own design studio, M&J; a practice for interior and graphic design. Their interdisciplinary studio growing into advertising, photography, film and theatre into the 1980s. Their aim was to revitalise utilitarian designs to create functional objects that are appealing and elegant.
In 1989 they joined the design team at Santa & Cole, two years later becoming partners of the company. In their time there creating some of the manufacturer's iconic designs, including the Pie de Garza lamp, the Dórica lamp, the Disco series and adjustable Sistema Matricial lights.
