Josef Albers

Josef Albers (1888–1976) was one of the most influential artists, designers, and educators of the twentieth century. A leading figure of the Bauhaus and later a celebrated teacher at Black Mountain College and Yale University, Albers transformed the understanding of colour, form, and visual perception through a career that spanned painting, printmaking, furniture, glass, and graphic design.

His most iconic series, Homage to the Square, explored the interaction of colour through simple geometric compositions, demonstrating how colours can appear to shift and change depending on their surroundings. Albers' innovative approach continues to influence artists, architects, and designers today.

The legacy of Josef and his wife, pioneering textile artist Anni Albers, is preserved through the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. The Foundation promotes their work, ideas, and educational philosophy through exhibitions, research, publications, and carefully selected design collaborations.

Products such as Josef Albers prints and rugs are officially licensed and created in collaboration with the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and its authorised manufacturing partners. These exceptionally crafted pieces faithfully translate Albers' celebrated explorations of colour and geometry into contemporary interiors.
