Artek was founded in Finland in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. To mark the 90th anniversary and celebrate the radical spirit of its founders and the longevity of their design legacy, two iconic Finnish brands—Artek and Marimekko—join forces for a very special limited-edition collection.
twentytwentyone presents this collaboration bringing together Artek’s expertise in clean, functional forms with Marimekko’s bold, expressive prints. The patterns chosen (Lokki, Kivet and Seireeni) were designed by Maija Isola in the 50s and 60s and are rendered in wood using a refined marquetry technique. This method translates the bold forms into contrasting wood grain, creating a subtle detail that shifts with light and movement.
The result is a striking selection of Aalto furniture, which is sure to be coveted now and in the future, available to order from twentytwentyone until the end of 2025.
