A true icon of modern design, Marcel Breuer designed the Wassily Chair in 1925 while working as an apprentice at the Bauhaus. Inspired by the bicycle structure and guided by the constructivist principles of the De Stijl movement, the designer refined the traditional club chair to its fundamental lines and planes. The seat is considered one of the first tubular steel furniture designs and has left an enduring impact on the evolution of furniture design.

Initially named the Model B3, it eventually garnered the name Wassily Chair as a tribute to Wassily Kandinsky, a fellow Bauhaus instructor and contemporary of Breuer, who greatly admired the design.
