Model 64 desk | 1961

Model 64 desk by Arne Iversen Wahl, c.1960

The Model 64 desk is a contemporary interpretation of a classical open front secretaire. The composition being a writing surface, raised upon a leg structure with storage set above the base. Constructed in solid and veneered teak, the arrangement of storage is clearly defined with a hierarchy of drawers and raised shelf. The understructure, with architectural cross-bracing, is subtly sculptured to soften the whole design.

The desk was made by Vinde Mobelfabrik in Denmark and the design proved popular with strong export sales into Europe and USA. There were several models within the series offering variations to the arrangement of storage and materials employed.

Arne Iversen Wahl maintained a productive relationship with Vinde Mobelfabrik, creating a host of desks and storage designs. He also designed seating for Komfort, but it is his Model 64 desk that marks a highlight in his output.
