Panton’s work always relied on colour. He once stated ‘Colour is more important than form’, though it was always a marriage within his interiors, furniture and lighting and he also said; ‘one sits more comfortably on a colour one likes.’

Panton developed a well respected colour theory during his career. He working extensively on textile and carpet designs. His relationship with the Swiss company Mira-X from late 1960’s through to the early 1980’s provided for many influential pattern and colour designs.

The panels offered are factory produced stretchers used to illustrate single repeats of textile designs. As with many of Pantons textile designs the patterns were often produced in opposing, optical colourways.

Verner Panton was taught by Poul Henningsen and began his career in Arne Jacobsen’s office. He became an independent designer in the mid-1950’s. He worked successfully on interiors, lighting, furniture and published highly regarded colour theories.  His approach to design was experimental and Panton chose to disregard convention to find new solutions. The landmark Panton chair was conceived in advance of the technology to manufacture the design commercially. This design and several others are now in continuous production and considered landmarks of contemporary design.
