Peter Lovig Nielsen Desk , 1955

Desk by Peter Lovig Nielsen for Lovig Design, c.1955.

Rare and important desk by Peter Nielsen. The striking linear worktop is supported by a fine and simple leg structure.

Constructed in solid and veneered oak, the influential design anticipates the development of the modern work station and the need for flexible working. An elevated panel of storage provides organisational space in addition to the inset drawers. This unit also rotates around flush fitted brass fixings to provide an extended work-surface.

The design thereby allows for meetings or a shared work surface for a partner sitting opposite. The concept of marrying flexibility and functionality is fused within an elegant and harmonious design. The high cabinet-making cost of the Lovig desk created a select market for the design and it is now rarely available.

Peter Nielsen worked as a free-lance designer for various Danish cabinet-makers, and produced a handful of designs through his eponymous production.

Dimensions:
162w x 73/96d x 86cmh
