Akari YP1 pendant, 1951
Akari YP1 pendant by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra.
In 1951, American/Japanese artist and designer Isamu Noguchi started to design the Akari Light Sculptures, a total of over 100 hand-made Shoji-paper models for table lights, standard lamps or ceiling luminaires. For the name of this lighting series he chose the word "akari", the Japanese terms for brightness and light, and also lightness.
The Akari 16A is great for introducing subtle ambient light to any room. The diffused light created by the washi paper lanterns brings calmness and a zen atmosphere to any interior space.
Herman Miller has the sole license for the Isamu Noguchi collection in the U.S. and the Far East. Therefore the export of these products from the UK to the U.S. is not possible.
