Caruso St John

Adam Caruso and Peter St John founded the Caruso St John Architecture studio in 1990. The duo aims to create buildings that are perceived slowly over time and that have emotional content.

The practice rose to notability with the winning of the international competition for the New Art Gallery Walsall and since has created a wide array of museum and gallery spaces, taking into account the delicate intricacies and limited budgets of art institutions.

Caruso St John was responsible for the Millbank Project for Tate Britain, Damien Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery in London (for which they won the RIBA Stirling prize) and the revival and extension of the Art Deco Liverpool Philharmonic concert hall.
