Rodney Kinsman

Born in London in 1943, Rodney Kinsman trained at the Central School of Art and Design. He founded OMK in 1965, shortly after leaving art college.

He presented his first chair design, the T1, to Terence Conran, who bought it for his newly founded Habitat chain. This marked the start of a highly productive relationship, and Kinsman went on to design numerous products which were sold at Habitat throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Kinsman was made a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers in 1983, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art in 1988 and was appointed a Royal Designer for Industry in 1990.

Interviewed in 2017, Kinsman noted, "I don't think I have any main influences apart from the fact that I've always been interested in mass production and industrial design as opposed to craft. I like developing things technically, informed by a material that I am interested in."
