Vilhelm Wohlert

Vilhelm Wohlert (1920-2007) trained as an architect at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, graduating in 1944. He later became a professor there from 1968 to 1986. 

As well as his work designing and restoring old churches or royal castles, Wholert is celebrated for the design of the Louisianna Art Museum in Denmark. A project he and his partner Jørgen Bo dedicated over 30 years of work to. Although he was a practising architect Wohlert was also known for his furniture and lighting designs.

Wohlert's product designs were applauded for their sculptural forms achieved through precise structural elements. In recognition of his contribution to Danish design, he was invited into the  Order of the Dannebrog.

Vilhelm Wohlert designed a series of lights for Louis Poulsen, such as the Magnum light, 1995, the Magasin ceiling fitting,1974, Micro 1991 and the Satellit pendant, 1959. 

During his lifetime Vilhelm Wohlert received a number of accolades including the C.F. Hansen medal from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1979, and the Gold Medal presented by the same academy in 1946.
