Midgard

For over a century, Midgard has shaped lighting with precision, elegance, and purpose. Founded by innovator Curt Fischer, the company pioneered adjustable task lamps that adapt effortlessly to the way people work and live, securing the world’s first patent for an adjustable electric lamp.

Midgard’s commitment to functional design naturally aligned with the Bauhaus movement. In 1926, when the Bauhaus moved into its new Dessau buildings, Midgard lamps were selected to illuminate studios, offices, and living spaces. Their clean forms, precise mechanics, and purposeful design reflected the Bauhaus principle that form should follow function.

Used by leading modernists such as Walter Gropius, Josef Albers, and Marcel Breuer, Midgard lamps became part of the everyday life of one of the most influential design schools in history.

Today, that same philosophy guides Midgard: lighting that is intelligent, enduring, and exquisitely functional, realised through collaborations with top designers who bring modernist ideas into contemporary form.
