Superfolk's range of beautifully pared-back homewares are inspired by outdoor living and the natural world and are crafted using the finest natural materials and time-honoured techniques.
The design studio based on the wild and rugged west coast of Ireland was founded in 2009 by artist, designer and architect Jo Anne Butler and designer Gearóid Muldowney. Butler had previously studied architecture at University College, Dublin, followed by an MA in Making and Design at the Arkitektskolen in Arhus, Denmark, while Muldowney had studied at the National College of Art and Design, Ireland and the Lahti University of Applied Science, Finland.
A passion for nature is evident in everything Superfolk create. Their work is imbued with the constantly changing colour, patterns and textures of the wildlife, weather, landscape, geology and seasons surrounding their studio in Clew Bay, Ireland.
As designers, Gearoid and Jo Anne work slowly, taking time to craft objects which possess integrity, soul and beauty and which are rooted in a profound appreciation of materials and the process by which they are transformed.
Recognised internationally for elegantly simple, material-led design, Superfolk's work has been exhibited at London Design Festival, Stockholm Furniture Fair, NYCxDesign, Maison et Objet Paris, DesignWeek Tokyo and DesignMarch Reykjavik.
