Werkstätte Carl Aubock

Founded as a metal workshop back in the 19th century, the traditional Carl Auböck workshop is still located in Vienna. In its early years, the workshop mainly produced the traditional bronze figures known as Wiener Bronzen (collectible trinkets and souvenirs, often in the form of animals).

In 1926 the founder's Bauhaus-trained son took over the workshop and proceeded to bring a distinctly modern sensibility to the Wiener Bronzen. Exquisitely made, profoundly tactile and often evincing a whimsical humour, Auböck's curios, decorative pieces and household objects were to be enthusiastically collected by figures such as Walter Gropius and Charles and Ray Eames.

The Werkstätte Carl Auböck is now run by the fourth generation of the family, and continues to produce the designs that made Carl Auböck's name.
