Castiglioni San Luca chair, 1960

San Luca chair by Achille Castiglioni for Bernini.

The San Luca has a very individual character, though its form is derived from eighteenth-century furniture. Inspired by Boccioni sculptures, its dynamic profile was realised through models made in clay, chalk and wood.

Making special consideration of ergonomic studies, the armchair consists of three points of support; the seat, back and headrest.

All the chair elements were reduced to finest profiles and the use of progressive furniture-making techniques allowed a pressed-steel frame to be combined with different densities of polyurethane foam. Each component is manufactured separately to ensure the form and profiles are possible.

The chair was always envisaged to be made in leather, creating a contemporary, yet classical club chair that offers comfort and longevity.

As with many designs by the Castiglioni brothers, the San Luca chair has been in continuous production, reflecting the enduring appeal of their avant-garde and progressive designs.

The San Luca is currently manufactured by Poltrona Frau.

Dimensions:

85w x 98d x 41/99cmh
