Cherner Armchair
Cherner Armchair by Norman Cherner for Cherner Chair Co.
Norman Cherner was an American designer notable for his pioneering work on prefabricated housing as well as his furniture designs. His moulded plywood chair displays considerable technical expertise and reflects the preoccupation with this material of his contemporaries Charles and Ray Eames.
This design gained a new audience when it was featured in Norman Rockwell's painting 'The artist at Work', published on the front cover of the Saturday Evening Post in September 1961.
Designed in 1958 and now reissued in exacting detail from the original drawings and moulds, the armchair combines the best of both moulded plywood and solid bent wood construction.
