Sketches of Lighting
Sketches of Lighting by Daniel Schofield + Rhys Kearns for Days Press.
Sketches of Lighting is the second title in the Sketches of series, created by Daniel Schofield and Rhys Kearns. The project began from a shared interest in the creative process and a curiosity about how objects come into being. Following Sketches of Seating, this volume continues the exploration of design through drawing, material, and process, this time with a focus on lighting.
Forty international designers were invited to share the first sketch of a completed lighting project. Each is accompanied by an image of the final piece, offering insight into how ideas evolve from concept to form. Some sketches closely resemble the finished work, while others diverge entirely. Together, they reveal the varied ways designers think, iterate, and resolve form.
With words by Sam Weller and photography by Direction Bureaux, Sketches of Lighting reflects on the role of drawing in design. It offers a quiet study of how light is imagined, tested, and made tangible through intuition, material, and process.
