J16 rocking chair, 1944
J16 rocking chair by Hans Wegner for Fredericia.
The J16 is the undisputed classic among the many rocking chairs designed by Hans J. Wegner over the years. Ask a Dane to think of a rocking chair and they will probably have the image of this chair in mind.
The rocking chair was introduced by FDB Furniture in 1944 and has been in production ever since. In his chair design, Wegner stressed the importance of freedom of movement and ergonomics – as epitomised by the rocking chair. It is a much-cherished setting for reading, knitting and even nursing babies.
To match the rocking chair Wegner also designed a footstool. See below in 'More products in this range'.

Fredericia was first established as the Fredericia Stolefabrik (Fredericia Chair Factory) in 1911 and specialised in antique style furniture.
In 1955 the languishing company was acquired by Andreas Graversen who scrapped the existing product line and created a new one with the help of young architect, Børge Mogensen.
The company was taken over by Graversen's son, Thomas Graversen, in 1995. He led the company into the new century with a more fluid approach to design and production. Together with designers like Nanna Ditzel, he created a number of internationally recognised furniture pieces while at the same time continuing to produce the best of Mogensen's designs.
