Initially conceived as a comfortable and versatile chair that could be used indoors, Gubi has expanded the MR01 range with a new outdoor variant. Crafted from FSC®-certified iroko, a naturally oil-rich, durable hardwood that patinates beautifully over time, the outdoor seat features the same low-slung wooden frame and a nautically inspired rope seat and backrest.
It is constructed with wedged mortise and tenon joints, creating a structurally transparent form that highlights the craftsmanship of its making. The signature linen rope has been replaced with custom-made high-performance polyester that is waterproof, UV-resistant, mould-resistant, and highly ergonomic.
The seat and backrest are hand-woven from 90 meters of rope, using a method the designer developed himself, which locks the rope into the frame.
