Form Group by Robin Day for Hille.
The Form Group modular seating range was designed by Robin Day and this example was manufactured by Hille c.1960.
Using square-section tubular steel frames as a platform, a range of seating units, tables or storage units could be inserted to meet the requirements of the user. The system allowed for a wide range of configurations and offered customers great flexibility. The seat units were latex foam with the seat supported by exposed Pirelli webbing. The loose cushions could be mixed colours to create a dynamic aesthetic.
At the time the innovative decision to adopt L shaped corner arrangements was a highly contemporary way of designing rooms and spaces. The design was visually lightweight, and the rectilinear form expressed international modernism.
The Form Group was recognised with a Council of Industrial Design Award in 1961.
