Whisky Chair, 1948
Grasshopper Chair by Finn Juhl for House of Finn Juhl.
In 1948, Finn Juhl created the iconic Whisky Chair, showcasing his remarkable artistic vision for form, function, and intricate detailing. Renowned as a pioneer of the Danish Modern design movement, Juhl's sculptural furniture embodied Denmark's pioneering spirit in the realm of furniture design.
Initially unveiled at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in 1948, as an integral part of Juhl's visionary concept called "The Living Room of an Art Collector," the exquisite chair did not enter production at that time. Undeterred by critics who deemed his designs excessively extravagant, Juhl fearlessly charted his own creative path.
Each purchase of the Whisky Chair includes a one-of-a-kind mouth-blown glass meticulously crafted by the skilled glassmaker, Mikkel Yerst. Interestingly, Juhl's original drawing did not incorporate the glass, underscoring how the chair itself became the catalyst for the creation of the uniquely designed glass, capturing its commanding silhouette and essence.
