Branca chair, 2010

Branca stackable chair by Industrial Facility for Mattiazzi.

As its name suggests, the Branca chair has been inspired by the organic branching forms that result from wood growth. The chair is a result of a close collaboration between designers Industrial Facility and the woodworking expertise of the Mattiazzi factory.

Branca's smooth rounded form belies the complexity of its production which relies on a combination of robot-controlled eight-axis milling machines and traditional hand-shaping and finishing. The chair's back leg supports the critical joints of armrest seat and back and is made from a single piece of robotically-shaped wood, assembled without metal fixings to give a seamless effect.

Comfortable, stackable and light, the Branca chair has been acquired for the permanent collections of the V&A, The Finlandia Design Museum in Helsinki, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Design Museum in London.

Please note: Minimum order is 4 chairs. For smaller orders a small order charge will be applied, please enquire for details.

Among contemporary furniture manufacturers, Mattiazzi, the family owned producer of wooden furniture in Udine, Italy, is uncommon.

Among contemporary furniture manufacturers, Mattiazzi, the family owned producer of wooden furniture in Udine, Italy, is uncommon.

Since 1978, when brothers Nevio and Fabiano Mattiazzi founded the company, Mattiazzi has steadily cultivated its local manufacturing culture. Their network of wood shops is diverse enough to support any manufacturing process the brand may need.

Every shop has its own focus, from milling to lacquering, and a particular process always belongs to a specific part of town.
